Alright, I have a major dilemna. Today/tomorow I have to choose between two cars since I totaled my '95 two weeks ago.

I've been looking at cars in every corner of the state of VA possible and have narrowed it down to two cars.

The first I looked at yesterday. Its a 1993 LX 5.0 hatchback. It is burgendy with grey interior. The car has 60k miles on it and is in imacculate condition. It has a fairly new (25k miles) 306 in it with P heads, ported/polished Cobra intake, B cam, Mac headers, O/R X pipe, flowmaster catback,3.73 gears, 5 spd, 5.0 shifter, tach/shift light, oil guage, water temp guage, Be Cool radiator, electric fan. I'm sure there's more. Anyways, the car sounds bad ass with that B cam and O/R X pipe and it's pretty darn fast. Not sure how fast, wish I knew but way faster than my '95 probably ever would have been.

Second car i looked at last night. Its a 1994 GT with 77k. It is yellow in color with black leather interior, aftermarket power sunroof, 1.5" drop with C springs I think, MM Camber kit, 5 spd, 3.73 gears, yellow blaupunkt cd player, cobra white face guages, flowmaster exhaust. It is also in like perfect condition and this one has every reciept for every oil change, modification and repair.

Now i'm more of a fan of the LX cuz its just got straight up speed with low miles on the car and especially on the 306. I like the 94 cuz it is yellow with leather interior and a sunroof. It also has a nice drop to it and I just love that body style much more.

I'm completely torn. I have no idea which to choose. Can anyone help me?

Here are a few pics that are not great but give you an idea. The first is of the LX:

Here are two of the '94:

If you are a student, and need a dependable car. DONT get something that has been modded much. If it is a SECOND car and it can be down at times to do work, then go ahead and go for the LX. The 306 is a strong motor if done right, but I MYSELF would not buy a heavily modded car as my daily driver unless I really knew the owner and what he/she did.

The car is not that modified. Its basically just a worked cobra motor with a cam. Ya know? Its in stock appearing shape. Obviously hasnt been used as a race car. It was a daily driver in the past. Also, i'm 26 and no longer a student. I just want something to get me to work and something to have fun with on the weekends. :) Both would be a lot of fun.

I honestly wouldn't buy either. Wait until you find a stock car or something very close to it. I'm with RC in that I wouldn't buy a modified car. Sure, it's not that much, but it only takes one screw up. He could have wacked a cam bearing installing the cam and now the motor runs like garbage. Another thing is the car only has 60k on the chassis and 25k on the new motor? Thats another sign to me that either the guy can't mod his own motors because he blows them up, or he beats the living piss out of it.

I would't buy the yellow car for many reasons, and my primary one is the aftermarket sunroof. I've never heard of an aftermarket sunroof that doesn't leak. My cousin had one put in on his GSX Eclipse before he bought it, and it leaks like a sive. Aftermarket sunroofs are the devil :D.

Seriously though, it sounds like your rushing to get a car. It's easier said than done, but wait it out. Find something you really like and appeals to you.

To answer the question to the post - Raw Speed.

Good answers. Thanks. The 306 was put together by a performance shop and installed by Ford. I'm sure it was done right and it looks very nice, not thrown together. The engine was replaced cuz the original overheated the aluminum heads and trashed the motor.

The sunroof is not sposed to leak. All i know is what i was told. The car has every reciept for every brand new part. The guy really took care of it and bought quality parts (eibach, MM, etc).

And remember this is my daily driver, but also look at my sig and see that my past daily driver wasnt that stock itself.

I'd most certainly get the yellow car. I, unlike the others, would rather buy a car with a few mods done, like gears (MAKE SURE THEY ARE IN THERE THOUGH!!!), springs, etc. I wouldn't worry about the sun roof. The guy has the documents for all the work done, that screams to me that he was a responsible owner. 77K is relatively low mileage too, so the car obviously wasn't used all that much. I've owned and currently own a fox and an Sn95. There is no comparison between the two in terms of "feel" and such... the fox is just much more "sloppy" than the SN95. In my heart though I love that "slop" and that's why I bought another one.

Yellow is a good find too!!! Get the looks... the speed will come. With the yellow car you already have a start on mods, but basically its like a blank canvas that you can take in any power direction you want.

just to clarify, i had an aftermarket electric sunroof in my last cobra and in a year of ownership it never leaked. the parts and install were oem quality and made the car very unique, thats the one thing i miss the most about that old car...
about buying a modded car i think it's preferable to buy a slightly modified car. i bought mine with exhaust, gears, cobra r's, aftermarket clutch, and c&l. all of those kinds of mods are stuff you're going to want to do anyway, and buying a car with simple mods like those will save you quite a bit more money for "real" mods like HCI, nitrous, or a supercharger. just my 2 cents, their is nothing wrong with buying a lightly modded car that has been taken care of.

I've decided to go ahead and get the yellow '94. I like the body style more and I had my '95 for 3 1/2 years so I'm pretty familiar with it already. It is mostly stock but it has the mods that I wouldnt want to do again, done such as shocks/struts/springs, camber plate, and 3.73 gears. I"m not lying, it was in pretty much new condition. Not a scratch or ding on the car. The suspension was very responsive for having stock wheels/tires and the steering wheel drove straight.

Oh, and i'm not rushing to get a car. I wrecked mine two weeks ago tonight and just got my check for it today. I have spent a LOT of time looking through classifieds and talking to people and looking at cars since then. These two just happened to be ones i've already driven and talk to the owners about. I know that they are GREAT cars so either way I couldnt lose. I just need a car. I am driving my dad's g'fs Jeep and I hate that thing!!! It's a POS.
