Man I bought a new alternator and I read on this forum that it is a good idea to put and in-line fuse from the alternator to battery. I did that but, I don't think it is a large enough fuse for the alternator. The alternator is a 150 amp and the fuse itself is only a 60amp. Is that enough, or what size should I use to be safe enough for the alternator and the battery.

Fuse size for 4 gauge wire & a 130 -150 amp alternator is 125-150 amp. The fuse should not be a greater capacity than the alternator output if at all possible.

Here's a parts list for the wire & other items...

See WWW.partsexpress.com for the fuse & fuse holder.
Fuse @ $3.90 each (need one) http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=071-952

Fuseholder @ $5.80 each (need one) http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=263-630

4 gauge black wire @ $1.25 a foot (use string to lay out routing & determine length) http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=100-196

4 gauge red wire @ $1.25 a foot (use string to lay out routing & determine length) http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=100-194

4 gauge ring crimp terminals (package of 5) $3.25. http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=095-584

and to add, I would go with a fuse that is rated for the lesser of any component (i.e. if one used a gauge of wire that has a rating less than that of the alt, get a fuse for the weakest link) - all MHO.

good luck.

I bought the 130 amp alt. from pa performance ( I think) and I got the 4 gauge power wire with it and it came with the 200 amp fuse. ( I bought the best wire setup that they had for the alt.)
