How can you tell a real 5.0 from a fake. I mean you can see the emblums that say 5.0 on them but is there a certain body style like the tail light covers and the body kit.

you mean the difference between an original V8 car and a 4 cylinder conversion? The easiest way would be the vin# or just read the sticker on the inside of the drivers door. Besides that there are definitely mechanical differences but who knows whats been changed on a potential 4 cylinder conversion car.

look at the size of the front sway bar. if it is tiny with no rear bar, 4cyl conversion. Some people forget to swap those...

None of that matters since all if can be swapped on. to know what you are looking at simply check the vin# the 8th # is the engine code..

4cyl code= 1990 and older is "A"/ '91-'93 is "M"

8cyl code= H.O. is "M" '84 thru '87 & '88 ^ is "E"..('79-'83 is different they used F & D).

There are LX models with original V8's, if thats what your wanting to know. Like the guys said. The Vin number will tell if anything has been changed. But chances are unless they specify the change, it is an original V8.

Does the vin # have a "D". you can post us pics all day, meams nothing I can show you hundreds of pics of GT's with cobra kits on them. Go to the vehicle and verify the vin at atleast get it and stop looking at pics.

if someone does the v-8 conversion correctly replacing everything (like mine) the VIN is the only way to tell, and they might even swap them... what im saying is, if someone REALLY wants to pull the wool over your eyes, they can, and you wont be able to prove otherwise.

I know of at least SEVEN locations that a full or partial VIN is located.

People are not as thorough as they think they are when they try to completely fake a conversion.

okay, you may be able to prove otherwise... BUT, if you have to find one of the other VIN tags to prove its a 4 cyl car... WHO CARES, obviously the job was done nicely if nothing tips you off before then.
