Looking to change my rear end. Can anyone tell me how difficult it is to remove the rear Axle of a 1969 Mach 1. Is there somewhere on the Web I can go to get instructions??
If your just wanting to change the rear it shouldn't be a big deal. If your 69 is set up like y 65 then all you need to do is unbolt the shackels, unbolt the u bolts that hold the springs to the axel and undo the parking brake and reverse to put the new one in.
Also, if you're going to be doing this sort of thing often you'll probably want to invest in a Ford Repair Manual (SuperDave's Timeless Wisdom #7) and maybe a Chiltons. I always keep both handy.
I just replaced the rearend and rear suspension this weekend. It was easier installing than it was removing and that was not very difficult at all. Took me a couple hours to do everything. The only problem I had was the with the shackles and the brake line connector. I ended up having to cut the hose off. The shackles were a paing just because of the the amount of working space.
