rear brakes dragging

So the rear brakes have been worn out for some time now and the drivers side outside pad was down to the rivet while the other three pads were still ok with like 1/8in of life left on them. I picked up the special tool and screwed the rear pistons back in & installed the new pads, bolted the calipers back on.

The rear brakes are now dragging pretty bad. When I stop even on a slight hill i dont have to hold my foot on the brake.

I searched these forums and the only thing I found was the mention of the guide pins being frozen.

Any ideas?

The pins are what froze up on mine, a buddy and I had to heat the sum***** up til it became unfrozen.

is it both of the calipers? or just the driver side?

Try the slide pins first. take it apart and make sure they are greased real nice with high temp grease.

I have found the ford rear calipers to be very ****ty and tempermental. If you let the piston get pushed out and leave it like that for long the caliper will need replaced/rebuild. Some will say different but from the brakes I have done on mustangs like this I have had to replace one of even both of the calipers.

Tell-tale sign of slide pins seized. First hint is the uneven pad wear.

Take calipers apart, get some penetrating oil and soak the pins and see if you can twist them out of the bracket. REPLACE THE BOOTS. Any little pinhole allows water to get inside and the pin seizes. Most autoparts stores sell the smll parts kits with new boots.

A new bracket from Ford is something like $45 ;(
