ok so routine rear brake job jacked up tire off, caliper off, and when i go to compress rear caliper.... and nothing!! YES i am using the tool to turn it in im not just pushing... but it wont turn. the tool felt funny so just to make sure i used the needle nose plyer method and still nothing.... so im going tomorow to pick up a new caliper. is this the problem?? oh also, just to be sure i disconnected the hand brake cable and cracked the bleeder valve release pressure just in case. still nothing. did i forget anything?? i didn't try the other side yet i was out of curse words and all the tools had already been thrown to the other side of the room. any help is apprecited thanks!!

:edit: this is on my 94 mustang v6

sounds like a frozen caliper to me. I just did the same job on my 94 a few months back and they were frozen. New calipers fixed it right up

There's definately something wrong.. unless the brakes were on, the ebrake was on, or you didn't pop the master cylinder cover (or bleeder valve) it should screw back in.

it's pretty common for these style calipers to freeze up. some times they take a ton of force to turn them to. But i am sure you probally tryed as hard as you could.

Or frozen stupid.

If you don't want to spend the cash, and you can get the caliper out, you can try reconditoning the caliper itself. Damned if I can find the article I read a few years ago though.

Take a pair of Channel Locks and turn the piston clockwise. This will compress the rear caliper. If you have vice grips they work better.
