If i cannot screw in the piston anymore, does that mean the caliper is done?

i have the tool, i used to just use needle-noses but figured i needed more torque and needed to push and turn at the same time, but the piston turns still with the tool but doesnt go in anymore. for ****s and giggles i went the other way and screwed it out all the way and now it wont go back to even where it was when i removed it off the bracket.

****ing rear calipers. time for a new one?

They go in VERY slowly. Are you sure they are not going in at all??

There is a better tool to use that turns and pushes the piston in at the same time. You might want to get and try that tool first before writing the caliper off.

yeah i was turning it for a good couple minutes and it would not go in far enough to clear the new rear rotors and shoes.

i even tried loosening the shrader and letting some fluid bleed out as i turned, no dice. took the ebrake cable off and nothing.

do you know where to get the other tool? right now im using that universal square looking tool from kragens (its kragen on the west coast, prolly called something else everywhere but here) that i had to modify a slight bit to fit into the grooves but it still works.

I've used the cube before and it does work, but the above tool is MUCH better.


A reman caliper from autozone is about $40 plus core

lol hrm, decisions decisions.......

add tools to tool inventory, or risk spending a extra 20$ that can be used on beer tonight if said tool fails and i need a new caliper anyways........

well finally got the piston back into the caliper. had to take the caliper off and set it in my bench vise, and push on the piston with all my weight while turning.

btw that tool didnt help. the piston was so far out of the caliper it didnt fit between the piston and caliper to get leverage to work.

though the initial reason for re-doing the rear brakes still exists:

Most likely that caliper will seize within days. You have probably ruined it and you should install a new one. They are only $40 at AutoZone with a $40 core.
