Will cutting out the rear cats and putting in pipes, while leaving the front cats untouched give me a noticeably louder sound?

I thought about this, but then saw how cheap off-road pipes are. You can get an off-road midpipe for under $150 shipped and then keep your stock piece if you ever trade/sell the car or move to a state with emissions testing. I recommend this proposal. You won't be sorry.

yeah it will be louder, but +1 to the off road pipes

Is it easy to gut the cats if the Cat pipes are detached. Can you gut them while keeping the cats in tact?

just get the offroad mid pipe with mil-eliminitators and your set

dont do it,it sounds like crap i did mine and then an hour later just ordered the pipe,i cut them gutted them and then welded them back together,it sounds 10 times raspier than an offroad x that i bought

well first off I think the rear "cats" are actually resonators. and the front cats are the cats.

anything you do there will give you more volme it is just weather or not it is worth the hassle to you. it would not be to me as I would just buy a new midepipe and swap it in. If you have the time and the equipement though it should make the car louder as to which give the most sound resriciton the resonator or the cat I don't know. I would think the cat would muffle more.

Yep...save your stock pipe. They are expensive to replace.I think $1200 or more from Ford.

I actually have a Crown Vic, not a Mustang. (I thought I put that in the post, but I didnt). I would do the Off Road pipe but to fab one up costs way too much, I figured gutting the cats would be as effective and cost much less. I have an XCalibrator so the CEL is no problem.

well you can gut the cats but I am not sure what you can do with the resonators.

I would cut them both out and put strait pipe back in there place. I you have access to a cutoff saw and welder and mark and mesure correctly it should be a easy job. just tack it and test fit it before you fully weld it.

if you ever need a stock pipe just get one from the bone yard.
