rear defroster contact soldering

The driver side contact came off on my rear defroster for my 88GT. I want to go ina and just solder it back on. But I wanted to make sure that no special solder or process was involved before just going ahead and doing it.

Can I just fire up my soldering iron and get some regular solder to reattach this?

The Method in the Service Manual tells you to park the car in the sun on a Hot Day and then use a Hair Dryer and heat around the area and then use the soldering iron and as soon as you are done go back to the hair dryer. I could not get mine to stick so I ended up using Metallic Glue specifically designed for gluing the tabs back on.

I bought it from JC Whitney, I am almost ashamed to say I bought anything from there, but the stuff worked fine, its held up over the last couple years. You might try Autozone or another parts store to see if they carry it too.

If you don't want to use a Weller solder gun, you can use conductive epoxy.
