Hi everyone, this is my first post, as I'm now the owner of a 2000 GT with 77K miles on it. I love it. But I have a question about a rear end noise that I am hearing. A friend told me it was a bearing. But it makes considerable noise, almost like breaks are grinding, like a stuck caliper piston or something. But it is not the breaks, the sound comes from somewhere in the rear end. I believe my friend about the bearing, which he said was driver side. But I swear it sounds like the whole damn thing is making noise, not just from one side. I'm taking it into a shop soon, but any advice beforehand? It only makes noise while I am pressing the gas it seems.

grinding sound is not good. Usually they whine during accel or decel, or both. My 96' GT started whining during both about a year ago and it's got stock gears. I would check the fluid. If it's good you will end up doing a rebuild on it which would be a good time to upgade gears if you want if you wanted to.

time to rebuild it,
at about the same mileage mine started doing same thing. i took ofthe cover and found lots of mettle chunks, just do yourself a favor and do a "complete rebuild" get it over with.........
