Well, my stock T-Lok is not doing its job, so I want to put some 3.73 gears in it and rebuild it. I would like to get the job done by Drive Train Specialists (www.drivetrainspecialists.com) because I live near one of their shops and I know they will do it right. The only problem is they charge $58 for clutch packs and $140 for bearings and seals throughout. The labor is $225 (decent price IMO). There is no way I am doing this on my own, but I was hoping to get a cheaper price for the rebuild kit. I know clutch packs are about $50 no matter what, but as for the rest, Summit Racing (www.summitracing.com) sells a bearing/seal kit for $81, part number SUM-G7819 . Has anyone used this kit? Will it have all the stuff I need (besides clutch packs and friction modifier) to get a complete rebuild? Also, I have found FRPP 3.73 gears for about $160 on ebay. Anyplace cheaper for the ford ones? I just don't want to pay over $550 for a rebuild with gears. But if that is about as good as I can get, I will just go with it. Thanks....

I'm getting my t-lok rebuilt, seals replaced, and gears swapped to 3.73 this weekend. I ordered:

M-4210-C 8.8 Ring and Pinion Installation Kit with seals - $90
M-4700-B 8.8 Traction-Lok Rebuilt Kit - $38
M-4209-F373N 8.8 3.73 Ring and Pinion Gears - $160

The guy is charging about $300 for labor. He installed my 4.10s last year for $150, so I think the labor is fair.

The bearing/seal package is about right, pricewise. What they are going to install is a complete overhaul of the rear end, including minor things like wheel bearings, carrier bearings, ring gear bolts and axle seals. It's my guess that they are going to replace everything, other than the axles and differential.

Well I want to get everything replaced except the axles and diff. I'd rather have it good as new than just do the gears, then have to do it all again in a year or two cuz the bearings are wore out. Oh well I guess you get what you pay for. I just really wanted to get some other stuff for my car before summer (like U/D pulleys). Guess I'll have to wait until I start my summer job again... Thanks for the help, btw.

Its better to get the parts from the place youre having installation done. Im not saying something will go wrong, but IF it does it will be much easier to get them to stand by their work and have it corrected.
