I have an 89 mustang gt. It has 3.73 gears and drum brakes in the back. I picked up a 95 3.8 mustang and wanted to swap the rear end so I have disc brakes in the back and keep my gear ratio. From what I understand I can use everything except the pinion yoke as long as the spline count is the same. Has anyone attempted this with this? Anyone know the spline count?

You can use just about everything from the axle shafts & out. So, axles, brake lines, brackets, calipers, shields, u/l arms, wheels...NO ring & pinion or housing. You're going to need the master cylinder, modify your brake lines for a prop valve, and a 3-2 port conversion.

See http://home.comcast.net/~mjbobbitt/mustang/page1.html for the best and cheapest brake upgrades and 5 lug swaps. The site doesn't sell anything but some fittings, but the tech notes are great. It tells you what junkyard or remanufactured parts to use to upgrade your brakes. It has almost everything you could want to know about Mustang brakes on it.

Don't bother to swap the rear axle assembly if all you want is the disk brakes. Use your old axle & gears and install the disk brakes, axles and brake hardware from the 95 axles. keep in mind that the 95 axles are 3/4" longer and may cause clearance problems with wide tries and rims. What are your plans for the front of the car, since the rear would end up with 5 lug disc and your fronts are still a 4 lug set up if all you are worrying about is the rear?

Why not use the housing you have now? Just pull the axels and strip everything off the ends of the axle tubes and install the axles and all the stuff from the 95 rear end onto your housing. Thats what I did ,, But you will still be left with the task of hooking up an emergency brake and brake lines
