It's ok man.. it's stangnet. You get a few people that actually work on cars and a bunch of kids that think they know it all because they read it on the internet and give out bad info so they can feel important. Then they cuss at you when you try to correct them, that's what's going on here.

I've never used a solid spacer before, I have no input there. I'm sorry.

Are whiny rearend's really all that common after a gear swap? @madmike1157 , that's what I was getting at. I only have one gear swap experience and it turned out well. I had a guy do it in his little shop and I'm pretty sure he didn't have a cryo freezer. All I brought him was the ring, pinion, gasket, and a couple bottles of oil. It's been six or seven years now and it's still quiet as a mouse.

Like I said , all anybody has to do is read the link I furnished in my last reply to ascertain that it was indeed a "joke".

Are whiny rearend's really all that common after a gear swap? @madmike1157 , that's what I was getting at. I only have one gear swap experience and it turned out well. I had a guy do it in his little shop and I'm pretty sure he didn't have a cryo freezer. All I brought him was the ring, pinion, gasket, and a couple bottles of oil. It's been six or seven years now and it's still quiet as a mouse.

The norm for every gear change is a totally quiet gear change. (and there are probably tens of thousands of that procedure done every year where noise is not an issue after the fact.)

The only "times" I've had noise after the gear change, involved 1. a guy that didn't know what he was doing. Not only did that guy destroy a new set of gears for me, he ruined a 9" center section pinion support as well. 2. An incorrectly spec'd Motive gear set intended for off road 4WD applications where it wasn't a big deal to have a noisy gear set.
I bought those gears from a guy at Barnett that didn't know that that was the deal w/ the gears, and ended up getting a full refund.

That refund got applied to a Motorsport gear set, quieter than a mouse.

And I didn't even need a cryo freezer for that either.

Dude you really don't know what you are talking about. Seriously. Pull the stick out of yer butt and move on.. unless you've actually done this and have something useful to add. I'm telling you things that professional mechanics do that I've picked up on. Real hands on work. Experience. If you have that, then by all means speak up.. if not.. then why not just shut up because well you know..

More than about 12 young man, point is just because its hard to bolt down taking a redneck short cut is wrong and not sure how you're sure the torque is correct... What I was saying is you jump on someone for saying hey 96 tails fit no problem or hey change your timing gear and chain but use the wrong word ..... you sir are a something of a know it all I guess...

If something ford techs do is a redneck short cut what does that make you for not doing it? You need to go back and read the thing about the 96 tails again. I simply told the guy to read again, and he got redirected by a mod for being an ass...and the timing chain thing was directed at a guy who regularly cusses out ppl for correcting bs. I'm not a know it all.. I know what I know from what I've done. You attach yourself to clowns and then jump on someone for trying to support good tech? Then call them out when you really haven't looked up what they're talking about to verify it's true? I've spoken to the OP and he told me he verified my info and it was good, so what's your problem? Can't read?

I will say this, and take it for whatever my experience is worth.

I did a gear swap on hoopty 1.0 with cheap gears and I could hear them whine over the 427 with race bullets.


I did the second Gear swap on hoopty 2.0 with ford gears my way amd had to redo it. I followed @Boosted92LX advice and used the pinion shim he said would work and it did and I have no issues.

I guess what I'm trying to say is there are many ways to skin a cat. Many will get you to the same destination, but I have learned from my 5 years here to learn from the guys who do it frequently and have for many years.

I am not a SN cer-tee-fied technician, nor will I claim to be. The more experienced gentlemen will always have my ear when it comes to getting stuff done.

Can we all agree to disagree before this turns into another monkey fight?

Thanks for the support man. I hate getting bad tech info from ppl because it wastes time and costs precious money. This is why I try to help people when I can by sharing my experience... Some folks just don't have the sense to appreciate that, I'm not wasting my breath anymore. Done.

Not going to get in the middle of this other than to say 100% use onl y Ford gears and I've used the upgrade Ford install kit on several cars with zero whine or problems.
