don't mean to hijack your thread but i was wondering what gears for my car. i have a 67 coupe with a 289 and an Edelbrock performer intake, holley 4 barrel and a small cam. Since I don't have an overdrive would 3.55 gears do me well? or should I step up to 3.80's? I like to cruise with my car...

I'd recommend the 3.55's so you could get a little better fuel economy. The thing is, you actually get better fuel economy if you run lower gears in town. Easier to get up to speed from a stop, but once you get rolling, say on the highway, they suck.

Posi is the GM term for a limited slip differential. Any limited slip diff+gears+setup will run in the 800ish range. Spools are locked all the time; I would never run one on a street car because of it, hard on things.

I just wanted to throw out the idea of a locker.

Open= What you got now
Limited Slip= Clutches
Spool= Race only
Locker= Limited slip that works with gears rather than clutches. Stronger, more expensive, lasts alot longer.

you are looking at a LSD or a Locker, for street use. Spool is for dragstrip-only or dirt-track use. Lockers are tough as nails, but they are noisy on the street. But, if your exhaust is loud, you'll never hear it
