i was windering if someone has a good pic of the rear main seal. i need to change mine but i dont see a big issue with it. the manual says to pry it out carefully with a screwdriver but i didnt want to pry on the wrong thing or scratch any of the other surfaces. i know it needs changed because i have oil that runs right out of that area down my oil pan.

Its not hard to change just getting to it is the pain. The tranny needs to be pulled and the clutch and flywheel or flexplate has to come off. Then you can install your new one, sorry dont have any pics.

Here ya go. In this pic, the seal is reddish brown.

i dont know if i m doing something wrong or what. i cant get the screw in without hitting metal. in the middle it wont go in and on the inside edge of the seal it catches the crank or whatever that is. im lost now.

There's a spring that goes around the entire circumference of the rear main seal. It'll move if you keep threading the screw in and you can get it threaded in enough to bite and pull the seal out with.

i have only changed out to rear main seals before and have always used a tiny drill bit and made 2 small holes in the center of each side of the old gasket and screwed in small machine screws. there is metal in the gasket so the screws do bite. next, put 2 vice grips on each screw and pull with all your might. the seal is usually in there good so you have to put your ass into it but it will come out. I like how your manual says to just use a screwdriver and pry it out. that wont work. Watch you dont knick your crank with the drill bit
