Anyone ever changed a rear main seal? I have a huge leak and that looks like where it is coming from. 250ci motor in the 66.

Had it in a shop to fix the leak and a bad AC hose. They claimed it was the oil pan gasket. Don't know how they missed it since oil practically pours out. Might have to take it back but don't want to spend the extra bucks to do it if I can get it myself.

I have done v8s in the car but not a six ,should be about the same though .
the problem is does it have the rope seal ? That means it still has the locator pin and that has to be removed . If it has the plastic seal then it has already been removed . The pan has to be dropped and the rear main cap has to come off. You can spin it out .Make sure to get the new seal in the correct way .

You will have to drop the transmission and the flywheel . The seal is a one piece seal and it is housed in an aluminum plate that bolts to the back of the motor .It is actually easier than a 289 or 5.0 to replace.
