i dont think you could do that in a hour and a half....the tranny has to come out.bellhousing, clutch, flywheel, the oil pan has to be droped.... when i replaced mine,i just went ahead and pulled the motor, wasnt that much more work

Why would you need to remove the oil pan? The rear main seal seals the back of the crankshaft to the block. The oil pan has nothing to do with it.

Figure at least 3 hours, like said earlier. The driveshaft, transmission, starter, bellhousing, pressure plate, clutch disc & flywheel all need to be removed.

While they are replacing the rear main seal, have them replace the pilot bearing, clutch disc, throw out bearing & resurface the flywheel. They are not absolutely necessary, but you might as well since they are taking them all out. They won't charge you any more labor as well (except $20-$30 to resurface the flywheel). Those are the "moving" parts of the system, and you don't want to pay a mechanic another 3 hours of labor just to replace a TOB or pilot bearing.

actually now that you mention it, my throw out bearing is making one helluva sound so i was plannin on jsut replacing the whole clutch with a frpp king cobra so it can handle the extra ponies from either a h/c/i or a vortech in the future. i would also have them resurface the flywheel if i had them replace the clutch. Are you sure about the oil pan? my mechanic said that he would have to remove and replace that as well? he said he would need it for the whole day, and others have told me numbers in excess of 750 dollars to replace just the rear main.

:bs: You don't need to remove the oil pan at all. I have friends that work at ford and the tranny guy replaced my clutch and while I was there he told me my rear main was leaking. I bought one right then and there and he said it just popes out and put the new one in. $750  No way just for the rear main seal. You should get another quote from another shop IMO.

yea thast what i thought i thought i mean its a 20 dollar seal, and i dont see why it would take sooo long. im ognna get some other quotes... tanks guys! any other commets please feel free.
