I went to autozone to get a rear end gasket for my '07 GT. They couldnt find a part no. for the '05-'07 but since it is a 8.8 I got one for an older fox body. Is it the same gasket? I haven't hand a chance to crawl under the car and compare the bolt pattern. I thought I read on here in the past that the gasket was the same. I plan on switching over to Red Line synthetic gear oil before spring. Thanks

Why are you using a a gasket? It's GOING to leak. Ford uses RTV on the rear end cover, and so should you.

Thanks Dawg.....I will exchange the gasket for some RTV sometime this weekend. Too bad the cover doesn't come with a fixed neoprene gasket from the factory like most intakes do nowadays.

I use a gasket on the rear also, but I also put a little RTV on both the cover and the housing and then put the gasket between both layers of RTV.

There's no reason to use a gasket if you're putting RTV on both sides.

That's right, the best thing is to clean the housing and the cover thoroughly and apply a uniform bead of automotive RTV and bolt in place. You would be best to allow the RTV to cure overnight before filling, but I have seen them filled almost immediately with no problems.

Good luck.

I had 4.10s put in today and the guy has never had a problem with filling and driving off right ater the install using the RTV only. I asked about the gasket however. He said he doesn't use them. He suggests that if you do use the gasket to also apply a small bead of RTV all the way around ond the diff side as well to help the gasket seat fully.
