With the recent thread on custom consoles, I thought I would share my rear seat delete. Since I view the rear seat in my fastback as too small and unsafe for passengers, I decided to remove it and use it for storage.

I removed all of the rear seat components and covered the fold up sections with black cut pile carpet to match my interior. Then I used some cardboard to make a template of my idea. I made the frame out of 1/2" A/C plywood.

Here is a picture of the finished product. With the folddown section down, everything looks stock. But once I fold up the cover, there is a platform for my amp, fire extinguisher, and a recess for my tool box.

The hole on the verticle panel, under the amp, is a single din for a CD Changer.

The platform under the amp is hinged to access the stereo wiring and there is an additional compartment behind the tool box for my Painless fuse block

Very nice Tim!

I like it alot. I agree the rear seat is pretty useless in our cars. That is a good use for the space.

Tim, Looks great.
My only thought was how much you carry in the tool box,
And would it have been better weight dist to have it on the pass side?
Sweet set up though.

Thanks all. And yea, PB, I did consider the weight distribution, but I, also, wanted to be able to access the CD changer from the driver's seat.

Looks cool How hard was that painless harness to put in? Just curious how"painless" it actually is. I've got a 65 vert ans I'm going to EFI and the wires have to go. Seemed like a good time to ****zle can the old ones but I was curios how much of a pain in the keister it is.

What a damn good idea! I especially like the fact that A) you can go back to original in the drop of a hat and B) it is camoflaged with the seat down. Excellent work!

I have a coupe too...

Correct me if im wrong, is all of that completely hidden except the cd player when the fold down is down?

uh60lchief - I wouldn't say that the Painless circuit block was difficult, but it was very time consuming.

MustangPaul & MustangMatt1966 - Thanks for the nice comments, MustangMatt1966, just because you've got a coupe doesn't mean you can't get creative and design something for your car.

67coupe351w - Yea, with the fold down in place the only thing visible is the CD player and you can't really see it though the window.

Great job! I've been toying with deleting mine as well.

you might want to have a strap that will hold the force of the toolbox if you roll the car or if the car gets hit.
A 12 y/o girl was killed in a minor fender bender There was a baseball bat in the car. during the crash the bat struck her in the head

I hope that your toolbox has foam liners to keep the tools from rattling!
