Hey guys. I'm thinking about dumping my rear seat in the GT as it's more or less useless. What I want to know, is how do you do it? Do you just remove the seat and leave a hole? Do they sell kits to make it look better? I'm thinking about putting a speaker box in it's place, too. Any info and pics would be appreciated. Thanks!

The seat bottom just pulls out, the seat backs are removed by bolts behind the pannels, then there are the seat belts and the lower seat rails. After that, you could just put some carpet down there and try to mold it in. I know kits are sold, and some people do a lot to make it look good.

I might be doing this because my car isn't for car pooling, I only want at the most one other person with me. I want the excuse "can't ride with me, it's a two seater" type of thing.

My friends and I usually don't take my car, as there's no room and gas mileage is low, so I'm not worried about loosing my rear seat. I just want it to look good when I remove it. Anyone else?

I bought my kit from a guy on Ebay, he makes it as per what you want. It was $70 plus $5 for the hardware kit. Its braced, comes in the color I want, and it includes free shipping. It looks better than something I would care to make. Thats a good deal for a custom made kit with hardware and shipping.

ok the item number for the 79-93 hatchback seat delete kit is 2460306773,
and his website with all his products is www.spurlockracing.net. Like most people who sell on Ebay, his items are cheaper through Ebay than through his site. Its 70 on Ebay, and 100-110 on his site.

Has anyone made their own hatchback rear seat delete? I just removed my seat, and am thinking about simply buying a yard of carpeting from Home Depot and cutting it to fit. I don't need a spot on color match, it's not like my car is a show car. I just want it to look better than the insulation material right now. Home Depot sells carpeting for like $9 a yard if I remember correctly. One yard is more than enough. Why pay $70 when you can pay $10? Unless I'm missing something

I know what you are saying about the price. But dont forget the hardware you'll need to bolt it down, and do you plan on molding it to the floor or having it drape across. If so, are you going to brace it so it doesnt sag. I'm very busy right now with my rearend and engine stuff, and just want a clean kit that I can throw in so I dont have to waste time and gas on several trips to the store, nor do I want to end up having it look ghetto.

You can make your own delete for around $35 (carpet is the biggest part of the cost). Dugan racing makes about the nicest delete kit but it is a little high. It is made from fiberglass and has a center console that replaces the factory one.

The one on Ebay doesn't even follow the contour of the floor. I might make one out of plywood so it is flat and sturdy enough to mount a speaker box on. I want it to just come to an edge, not slope down to the floor like the one on Ebay. I'm thinking more along the lines of a notchback version without the seat back. Any pics of these would be helpful.

I just picked up some carpet and tacked it down with some hardware screws to secure it, looks really clean!

Nice work sureshot. Only thing is, I'd like to find a way to have it come to an edge rather than slope like that. I might use some plywood and make a contoured shelf that will continue the hatch surface to where the edge of the seat would be.

$110 for that? cmon.. thats not a rear seat delete.. thats carpeting....

the notch kit looks a little better than the hatch setup. Dugan did offer something like the Saleen SSCs had, but its expensive..

When I redid my interior, I just bought bulk black carpeting from lowes, traced the contour of the hatch carpet.. and made it one piece from the rear of the hatch to the rear seat area. I cut the slots for the rear cargo holddowns (t tops) and thats it. Eventually I'd like to fiberboard something to make a shelf where the seat was... and I only paid $16 and had carpeting left over...
