yeah, astronut, based on your car wirght post, i believe u are looking for wieght reduction, right?? well by doing the wood shelf and stuff it will end up being heavier than the seat was. not saying its not a cool and good looking idea but if thats your goal it wont really be achieved.

Yeah, I know I won't be loosing weight with the wood, but at least I'll have some more space. My back seat is a waste of time.

The car didnt have hatch carpeting or rear seats, it had 4 - 15in subwoofers stuffed backed there, completly, couldnt see through the car. There is nothing under the carpet now.

My interior project (the rear seat delete was part of it) is documented in the tech article section of my site.

The RSD is nothing special, but looks good and works.

I saw someone who turned the area into a subwoofer box. I'm thinking about doing that, as opposed to making a shelf, then mounting the sub box on that. It'll save some weight and still give me some subwoofer mounting space.

blah astro doesnt play, but anways astro, mtx makes an excelent sub box that fits PERFECTLY between the two wheel well bumps... its a mtx tri sub eclosure, comes complete with 3 mtx thunder 6000's that is sure to rock your world. better yet, it is a wedge design, and it sits so that the subs aim perfectly at your back window, bouncing all that vibrating luv to your gf's seat...

Well, as of right now I don't have a g/f. The car I mentioned was 89tang's car, he did a custom enclosure. Any idea on price of the kit mentioned above?

Nice work sureshot. Only thing is, I'd like to find a way to have it come to an edge rather than slope like that. I might use some plywood and make a contoured shelf that will continue the hatch surface to where the edge of the seat would be.

Im thinking about the same thing why pay when you can just make it. I have the ply wood and screws just have to get some carpet.

sure astro, i payed at hhgregg for the 3 mtx 10'' thunder 6000 subs in the box with plexy glass backing, i think it was 270... For my amp, i went with the amp specifically made for that setup... mtx 801d, you can find them for around 200 on ebay... Let me tell you , i had these in my huge cutlass trunk, and it would make my vision blur, and make my dash shake .. even when bolted down...
