I installed Gabriel shocks on the rear last year. However, the eye on the end of the shock that fits into the cleats on the axle is narrow. When the shock is bolted to the axle housing, there is a good 1/4" gap on each side between the shock eye and the cleat sides. Should I shim this gap with washers or something? Does this even matter? Could this situation make my rear end even more sloppy than it already is from the factory?

That is not "fine" in my book!
