Rear Sway Bar Problems?

Why do the aftermarket PST and Mustangs Unlimited rear 3/4" sway bars mount on the center of the leaf spring? Why don't they use the stock mounting plate for the end links? My 3/4" rear sway bar from PST hits my sump for my gas tank. What's the deal? Anyone have the same problem?

The PST kit comes with U-Bolts (more square) that wraps around the bottom of the leaf spring where it attaches to the axle housing. It then has a plate with nuts to hold it firm to the leaf spring perch. This is where the end link is bolted to the spring. Then the top of the end link attaches to the sway bar. It is strange. I thaught I was sold the wrong kit. I looked at Mustangs Unlimited set and it is the same. They even mention at Mustangs Unlimited website that it attaches to the center of the spring. What happened to the original design? I am tempted to go back with the original 70 Mach 1 rear sway bar. I can't remember the size, I need to find it. Will there be any problems with the original Mach (larger) rear sway bar with my 1" front sway bar? Will it be unbalanced? I was told the front 1" with the rear 3/4" was a good combo.
