rear view mirror problem on 68

hello...i have two 68 coupes...and i have had one since 1968..got the second about 2 years ago...and both of them have the same problem..the silly rearview mirrors and always going out of alighment..i need a solution...the 68
has the funny set up...the screws and the two long round plates that try lol
to hold the mirror from moving..thanks

I had the same problem with my 68, i got a new center peice and it fixed it.

I took the low buck approach on mine. I took the halves apart and filed a little off both sides and put them back together.made them fit tighter and it worked.

Lol, mine does the same thing. It's really bad if step all the way into in 1st or 2nd gear. That gets all jacked up.

You could take sandpaper and rough up the inside of the socket and rough up the ball on each piece. This will make it harder for the assembly to slip & slide. Sometimes the more you tighten the screw the more the arm bracket bends until the clamping force is zero and the mirror just flops around. If this is the case its time to replace the two halfs of the mirror bracket.
