im going to be tearing down my rear end tommorow to put new gears in. im looking for any suggestions, hints, tricks, ect to get her apart.
i have a 65 notchback with stock 8" non posi.
thanks guys

this is what i can remeber i did:

Remove wheels and brake drums

remove 4 bolts and nuts that hold bearing reatiner in middle of brake assembly

put brake drum back on studs but reversed so the brake surfece is facing outwards and put a couple of lug nuts on loosely, reason is this goung to act as a slide hammer to remove axles

After both sides are removed, remove drive shaft and all nust around 3rd member but leave a couple at top so it wont slip off

pry bottom open to drain nasty stinky fluid, remove nuts at top and get ready for some heavy lifting

as far as gear replacement, that A LOT of info i forgot.

im not worried about installing the gears. i know how to do that. i just have never taken one out of a car. ive got a slide punch to do this work also

Am I to understand that you know how to rebuild a pumpkin installing new gears but do not know how to get the pumpkin out? That just seems strange to me.

What are you going with this time, and how much is involved in this swap??? I am reall wanting to go with 350's, but it's hell finding someone who will do the swap. If you can do it, I can do it, RIGHT??? Thanks for any info.

im going to school at UTI to become a tech. the phase im in now is powertrains and ive built 8's,8.8's,9's, ect. but in class, nothing is in cars, its all in stands. i have read up on how to do the removal of the dropout, and it seems simple. i was just curious of any hints/tricks to make it easier.

to 68 Coop: i am going from the stock 290's to 3.55's. this is my daily driver and i still have a c-4 so im not going to radical in gear ratio. its easy to swap gears, its the proper adjustments(backlash, turning tq, tooth pattern...) that u need an understanding of.
