rearend from a 89 ranger..will it fit?

Not even close.
The Ranger uses leaf springs, while the Mustang uses control arms.
Plus, what motor was in the Ranger? It my be a 7.5 inch rear end.
Which from my experience will not hold a 5.0.
I say look for a Mustang rear and save a bunch of trouble.

yea the 89 ranger has a 7.5 if i recall, and yeah it's got a different differential and you'd have to do alot of work for it to mount correctly, and i'm not sure about the overall width of the ranger rearend either

If it's from 2.3, 2.9, or 3.0L Ranger, then it will have a 7.5 inch rear end. If it’s a 4.0L (which debut in '89) is has the same 8.8 inch rear end that our Mustangs have. Unfortunately, only the gears and left axle (if you were doing a 5-lug conversion) are of any use.

Or even better, a Tbird Supercoupe 8.8 with the rear discs...

Supercoupes had IRS, and a totally different lug pattern. Turbocoupes had the 4-lug rear disc 8.8 with gears.

Rangers have 7.5" axles, and the pumpkin is offset, same for the Aerostars, only the pumpkin is offset to the opposite side than the ranger.

Not that they're the same bolt pattern, but 7.5-inch and 8.8-inch axles are interchangeable and will work with either gear set. The only problem being that only the left axle is the same length.

No, the 4L Ranger does not use the same 8.8 axle housing as the mustang.

The pumpkin in the rangers is offset by about 1" from center. The mustang is centered. The mustang uses the 4 link, Ranger leaf springs.

You're right Matt, but read it again, that's not what I said! You must have missed this part.....

I was clarifying your post that said "If it’s a 4.0L (which debut in '89) is has the same 8.8 inch rear end that our Mustangs have."

which is incorrect.

Yes a 8.8 is a 8.8 for the gears and axles, but the housings will not fit nor the axle shafts from a 8.8 ranger with the mustang brakes.
