I just put in a rearend in my 85 T-top that came out of a 87 Mustang 4 banger and when i opened it up to change the fluid everything was nice and clean and looked to be new which is great.

Well after I put the rearend in the car and I spun the axles I heard a ticking noide from inside the rearend like the gears were clicking together, so I climbed under the car to get closer to the sound and I spun the yoke where the driveshaft attaches to the rearend and it didnt make a noise.

What makes a noise when you spin the axles but DOESNT when you spin the yoke where the driveshaft attaches??????

Is it an open differential????

Even an open diff has spider gears, thats what it seems like it is.

How long before it causes further damage? 5ft or 500K miles but gererally it will get worse.
