I am yanking out my back seat in my 91 hatchback and I would like to see some pics of foxbodys with the back seats taken out.I was wondering if I should just lay carpet along the floor pan or fab up some kind of flooring so you can't see the dip of the bottom seat cushion. If anybody has pics I would like to see them.

Here are my plans (basically)

I am going to remove both the seat back and bottom. Make a plywood panel that lies flat and comes from where the seat back used to meet the rear carpet (hatch lx btw) up to where the front of the seat bottom was. Then make a piece that comes up from the floor to meet the flat piece. The flat piece will be trimmed to fit the interior panels all covered in matching carpet.

I will only be doing all of this if I don't like the way just removing the seat looks.

No pics but I can tell you it ain't purdy. I have removed all the brackets and sound deadening material also. Took a considerable weight out of the car but I am going to have to do some custom carpet and try to smooth things out so it will look presentable. The idea is to loose weight, so I am not going to put any plywood down or such for the purpose of appearance. I have heard of people using foam substances which hardly add any weight but do fill things in.

The rear seat doesnt really weigh much at all. Just take the beam from the bottom of the seat and the side and back supports for the seatbacks. Also remove the latch on the back of the seats and paint black the foamy part now exposed. The center pivot can hold both seatbacks just fine. Then lay them back against the body hump and hook them on the inside to the pivot. They will be 15 degrees more back but will look fine. I think the bench weighs maybe 3-4 pounds and the backs 2-3 pounds each. People have sat in these and they are real soft and the seat angle puts people to sleep.

Just my thoughs. If you must, just junkyard a carpet section from the trunk and extend this where the carpet used to be.

Sorry I dont have a pic YET but I took my rear seats out and replaced the carpet and used a 1/4 inch piece of plywood and black carpet and screwed it and it looks great..Today I had a 6 pt roll cage installed with a big X in the rear (funnycar) style...Looks so sick but now I am told to make it track legal I need to use sheet metal back there and seal it all up because my battery is going in the trunk.

Yeah right, the rear seats, brakets, and sound deadening material weigh like 50 lbs.

No way, that bench seat itself is nothing more than padded foam. The seatbacks weigh a _bit_ more each because of their backplate but it's not 50 pounds.

I'll weigh them tonight bathroom scale style. I'm guessing 25 pounds at most for the bare essentials

The reinforcement bracket and sound deadening, yes. Rip those out.
