I am rebuilding my 302 this weekend and I need to know if I need to use a ridge reamer to take off the ridge in the cylinder. Can I just put the new pistons and rings in and not worry about it? Please help.
I recently rebuild my 302 that had 65k on it. It was my old motor out of my 95 and I wanted to install new rings and bearings before installing it in my 93 lx. I didn't need a ridge reamer, there was very little build up. It just cleaned right up with some solvent.
If you can feel an edge I would ream it. Old rings are worn to fit against the bottom of the ridge. New rings have a sharper top corner and will cause interference is not reamed.
