Hey guys. I am disassembling my mainshaft and can't get the rest of the gears off because of this mystery part. I really don't know what to call it......like a washer that is fixed to the shaft. BTW I had the tip resleeved a while back........ideas?

thanks,

Drew

That's not an OEM part. Seems like it's part of the resleeving you had done. I can't tell from the picture how it's fixed to the shaft however so i can't really give you advice on how to remove it.

Removing it may detroy it and they you could be SOL when comes time to reassemble.

See TTC: Product Literature to download a FREE service manual for T5 or Tremec 3550/TKO
You will need the Adobe Acrobat viewer which is also a free download – Adobe - Adobe Reader download - All versions

See Hanlon Motorsports - T5 and Tremec parts, sales and service or Welcome to D&D Performance - The 5 & 6 Speed Experts! for parts

Hanlon Motorsports - T5 and Tremec parts, sales and service also has a video on how to rebuild your T5 or Tremec. It costs about $20, and is worth every penny of it.

jrichker- wasn't trying to be snappy, sorry. I have the manual file already

to me that looks like the small washer that goes on the tip to help oiling.

I've had them before where they stuck a little.

Is it part of the tip, or does it look seperate from the tip?

ok guys I found out what it was. The washer thing was actually the "spacer" that goes between the individual roller bearings and the thrust washer and bearing for the input. Where the hell can I get a new one?

Drew

it's not 100% necessary..and was only added to later model t5s for oiling issues.

it comes in a standard rebuild kit.

hanlonmotorsports or astroperformance may be able to sell you just that piece

it didn't come in the astro rebuild kit I got. One side of the washer looked to be polished by the individual roller bearings. Isnt this "washer" used to keep the individual rollers from moving forward and backward?

thanks,

Drew

How is it attached though? If it is that washer it should just slide off fine.

My impression from your post was that it was a more permanent component possibly pressed on?

Do you have any more piucs

I was very careful taking it off because I didn't want to scratch the mainshaft tip. I grabbed it with some pliers and worked it off. It wasn't on there that tight I was just didn't want to jump the gun and rip it off before I knew what it was.

Drew

there are only 4 things that go in that area...

1. the flat bearing
2. the flat bearing race
3. that round washer that then slips over the tip
4. the needle bearings that slide into the input

that's it.

is the washer bad?? just re use it

yeah it's bad. Its not even flat. Maybe whoever built the trans before me set the preload too tight so it was smashed against the step. This washer slides over the mainshaft tip
