I'm certain this has been covered before, but I can't seem to find it. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knows how much past the redline the 4.6 (SOHC type) can take without self-destructing? And how much damage really occurs when you hit the redline?

Thanks.

The stock 4.6L has the rev limiter set at 6000 and the redline is 5800. I guess running it at the red for a moment won't hurt much, if anything. You are gonna break something if you downshift a gear (or more) while going too fast.
