How many of you guys with aftermarket heads and cams have enough faith in your car to drive it a few hundred miles from your home. I want to put a set of heads and a cam, but I don't want to constantly be worried about something going wrong. I know that if everything is done right there should be little to no worry. I don't want to build the car and have it be a local only car, although it's not my daily driver.

Unless you are going with a big ol' solid roller and some hogs, it only works better.

Only been stranded once, and that was two years ago when my stock, original clutch cable snapped.
Not worried at all about the aftermarket parts - but I tend to only buy parts from quality brands.

Heads and cam, as long as you stay streetable, won't give you any problems whatsoever. It's the common wear items that matter; belts, hoses, rad, thermostat, fuel pump, filter, ignition system, braking and charging systems that can come back to haunt you on a long trip.

Foxes are getting older and if you are worried about reliability, I'd replace a few standard parts first.

Just my expirences,

I have had NOTHING but issues with ford alphabet cams. I've had a B,E,F and all of them gave my cars the terrible idle surge, and struggled under 1500 RPM. Granted, the cars were untuned. I supposed a tune would help that. One of the major reasons my current stang has a stock cam with 1.7 rr's and no issues

That's not so much reliability so much as it is driveability. But I see what you're saying.

your right its not much reliability. I was never stranded with any of those cars, i just struggled to make them run correctly and it stunk!

I have no problem running my 93 GT 400 miles to Rochester NY, 500 miles to Cape Cod, or 620 miles to Charleston SC. It's nothing for me to put 1000-1500 miles on it in a weekend.
