What is a good way to remove the crank bolt from the engine when it's already on a stand and without a flex-plate? I don't want to damage the crank and I'm worried that sticking a pipe in between the stand studs and the flex-plate bolts would damage the crank. Using a breaker bar on a single flex-plate bolt sounds risky too. Should I get an old flexplate?

use an impact gun on it - your taking it off so you won't hurt anything.
