How do you remove the stock alternator pulley? Every time I try to spin it the thing moves. I can't seem to get the nut off without the pulley spinning [like it's suppost to]... How do you get the nut off when changing the pullies?

You really do need an impact to do it, but if you're feeling crafty enough, you can do it with a rag on the pulley to prevent scoring and a pipe wrench. I've done it both ways, but the easiest is with the impact.

Hrm... Impact gun... That's what they suggest... Any other ideas? I don't have an impact gun here.

Breaker bar and a socket. I don't remember what size the bolt holding the pulley is, but I wanna say it's either 9/16" or 5/8" if memory serves me correctly.

I used to live accross from a shop so I just walked-up with my alternator and a mechanic just shot the nut with an impact wrench for free (that could almost be taken out of context in the minds of the dirty). Took 10 seconds. But another thing you can try is to keep the belt on there and try to break the nut loose with the friction of the belt stopping the pulley from turning. I never tried it that way but I heard it works for some peeps.

I just use a regular 3/8" ratchet to turn the tensionner. Its a bit tight in there, but it works fine.

It's an 18mm socket.

If you are wanting to loosen the tensioner to remove the belt, there is a square recess cast into the housing that a 3/8 drive ratchet and short extension will fit in.
