I just wanted to remove the 2 cats on my 88 Mustang 2.3L
What is the easiest and cheapest way to do it ?
Do they just bolt off, or am i gonna have to weld a little ?

Thanks

I think both cats are connected to the same pipe. You can just take that one pipe off and replace it with another piece of 2" aluminum piping. How you secure this new piping is up to you. You can either weld it or you could simple flange it on and use exhaust clamps.

The original cats are 2 on a single pipe which both (on the single pipe) can be disconnected from the manifold and muffler. how ever the replacement cats are 2 seperate cats on 2 seperate pipes (I price 2 new ones about 600.00 CAD before just gutted mine). I was going to replace mine with pipes as you may of seen in my earlier posts, but after discovering that each cat had weird curves in the pipe (making it hard to replace the cats with a straight pipe) I decided just to just gut mine. And after fixing the crack in my manifold (Red Hot 2000 ceramic metallic paste did wonders for it ) and replacing my manifold gasket , my car now has a low hum, not even noticable much. And my girl don't complain anymore

The cheapest and easiest way to remove 2 cats from your car? A BB gun will work well.

We don't seem to have as strict emission rules here in the Atlantic as I know of. I don't suggest what I did to anyone that has these kinda rules. My only other suggestion is gut the smaller cat up front to the manifold (it the one that cause me the most grief) and replace the bigger one to the muffler with a hi-flow one. Thats my 2 cents but I am no means a certified mechanic and I'm sure RedLX or Stinger (pros in my mind, they helped me tons) will have great ideas.

Yes oh Yes look into the Stinky it has loads of good ideas in there and some broken links too. In the broken links be sure to harass the poster to fix them. I do
