small metal bracket has one or two bolts in it , take that off and unplug the harnesses that are there and then there is one tiny screw/bolt that is holding a white strap on the corner of the computer , take that out and bend the white strap back and slide the computer down and pull it out .

My car is an 01 so I don't know if anything is different on your 97. After removing the kick panel, there should be three connectors. Green and grey I believe, the middle one slides out and the other two need to be pulled out. There is a small gold hex bolt that holds a plastic white casing to the computer. Remove this bolt. It requires a 5.5 mm socket(stupid ford). Then pull the computer out. This is quite a pain in the rear. There is one more bolt holding the computer to the wires. It's on the bottom and it needs to be loosened. I believe it is a 10mm. Loosen it, and pull it apart. And your computer will be in hand! As for the chip I don't know, I just know how to remove the computer. Enjoy, hope this helps.

When you install your chip be careful. If it is anything like the Diablo chip
it can be tricky prepping the board. My board needed to have the goop on
the connector removed before you could install the chip. I don't know about
the 97', but my 2000 you needed to take a brillo pad like piece of cloth provided by Diablo to remove the goop and take enough material off to
expose the soldered part of the chip. If you take off too much, you can
damage the cpu and possibly cause the chip not to work properly.
If you install the chip and it does not start, you probably didn't clean off the
solder well enough and need to go back and clean it some more. Just be
careful. I would hate to see you damage the cpu or the chip. Good luck.
