Removing steering wheel

I was in the drive thru today getting my change from the drive thru window person. I put my hand on the wheel and give it a little turn to straighten out. I drop a DIME between the crack in the steering wheel face between the center part that pushes the horn and the outer part.

Now everytime I turn I hear a dime rolling around in there. Worse, once in a turn, it honked by itself. I have no clue how to get this thing open and I'm concerned about the air bag.

Does anybody know what I can do?

I guess you can turn on a dime now.



Bad joke aside, there is a write up somewhere (bullitt archive I think) on installing the FR500 wheel that should show you how to remove that part.

Ok pretty simple. THere are two little "covers" on the side of the steering collum (one right, one left), pop those off and remove teh screws. that removes the airbag. From there you should be able to access the area you're looking for, where the horn switches are, etc.

Should be able to get to the dime with the idea above but I have to ask one question...you said you needed to remove driver's side steering wheel. You have on on the passenger side too?

just make sure to disconnect the battery first before you attempt to remove the air bag

I was thinking when I read it man you are lucky its not in the passenger side steering wheel, those are a bitch to take apart

You really do need to get the dime out soon, joking aside. Its possible for it to jump the contacts for the airbag and deploy just like it did for the horn.

My kid put pennies in the cd slot of the stereo, I had to completely disassemble the stereo head unit to get them out...

it would have to rub thoguh wir insulation first - the airbag contacts at all sealed, and when teh connetor comes apart, the air bag shorts itself (bridges its contacts) so voltage has nowhere to go and cant deploy it
