Anyone ever replace the studs exhaust manifold studs on the outlet of the manifold? Mine were pretty damn rusty but I managed to remove the nuts and get the old exhaust off. Now the threads are nearly nonexistent halfway down the studs. I got new zinc-plated nuts to replace the old rusty ones but they don't want to thread onto the deformed threads of the studs. I figure I've got a couple options:
1) take a die to the studs to try to salvage them
2) grind the end of the studs square, try to unscrew them from the manifold with vicegrips and put new studs in
3) cut the studs short and drill them out of the manifold grind away some material on the manifold to make room for bolt heads and replace the studs with bolts
4) replace exhaust manifold with another stocker with studs in better shape
What do you guys think? Anyone every done any of these approaches or have a better way to fix the problem?
