removing temp. knobs?

any trick to removing the knobs ? ive been trying to get my ac to work and im noticing a dead spot when im turning the hot cold knob so i want to get it off to see if its turned all the way to cold .. can i just yank them off without breaking them ???

when I pulled my center console out to do my shifter I just pulled on them and they came right off and went back on with no problem. there is no clip on them persay, they have a small one inside the hole to hold it into the selector stud. just pull it straight off. when you look at the back side off the knob it's shaped like a half moon, make sure it's not cracked or split, that will not allow it to turn all the way in a certain direction.

when you turn it and feel a flat spot thats what mine felt like and the "half moon" part was cracked and was not turning the temp control it was just spinning on the stud.
