Removing the decklid spoiler

I am trying to find a GT manual, white ext., dk. charcoal leather int., and no spoiler. I finally found the car except it has a spoiler. I am guessing the spoiler is bolted through the trunk lid. This would require welding up the holes and painting the trunk lid which I do not want to do. Does anyone have a good suggestion other than just ordering one.

get a ducktail that uses the factory holes. otherwise, the only thing besides welding the holes that you could do is to plug the holes with the rubber body plugs. the problem here is that the 4 holes for the spoiler are not the same size/shape you would have to redrill the holes so they are all the same size/shape. then they will be large, and very noticable.

If you are thinking about getting a ducktail...there are ones out there that cover up the holes. The CDC has a hole delete kit (that I have but am not very fond of but it was the cheap option) since the spoiler itself does not cover the holes.

You can trade for one online in same color (might not be very easy to find someone to do that). Try listing a trade on ebay?

Of course, you can get it welded and repainted as you mentioned. I was quoted around $650 for this option so I went with the hole delete kit and the CDC ducktail. There are more options for ducktails out there now. Maybe the new GT500 spoiler will be available soon and it would probably use the factory holes.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am going to just order an 07. That will give me more time to save for that turbo and engine rebuild. View attachment 474723

Before you place that order, here's another option. I also wanted a spoiler delete, but I got my car in November of 2004, meaning take the car now, or wait, wait, and wait some more.:) Before having my trunk holes filled, I wanted to see if any duck tail spoilers would use the existing holes -- in the mean time, the person who did my stripes intalled these acrylic covers. For me these were a temporary measure, but you may be able to live with them indefinitely.

There is another, cheaper option you might want to try. Whomever has the GT you're looking to buy may also have a V6 coupe of the same color without a spoiler on the lot. The dealership might be willing to exchange the entire trunklid between the two vehicles in order to make a sale. They might even do it later if they didn't have the correct color V6 coupe on the lot but got one in later.

The only caveat would be that after the trunklids are exchanged, the two vehicles would then have incorrect fake gas cap emblems. However, it might be possible to exchange those without too much trouble, as well.

I, too, dislike the rear spoiler and this is the first thing I'd ask the dealership about if I wanted to buy a GT off the lot.

you cant just swap the parts from unsold cars. the parts have federal tags that have the VIN on them. when you swap them, they dont have the proper VIN for the car. you cant remove the tags, or you would be violating federal law....
