I have a crack about 4 inches long on the drivers side skirt. I was hoping there might be some "magical" paste or something that might fix it up so I could paint over it. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I suppose i could get another one, but then I'd have to repaint the whole thing. I just want to be cheap right now and fix er up until I can do it right. Is there some kind of filler/calking I can get to stick in the crack?
JB Weld.....I would make sure you do a nice "apply" job, keep it smooth...The stuff is crazy hard to sand....but if applied nice youll be fine...give it o/nite to cure...
You can prime/paint it to.
I found a leaky pipe the other night... :damnit: Thought it was a pin hole...no dice, it had a 3" long crack....JB'd it....done deal.
The stuff works the balls...I had a crack on my GT front bumper about 4" long I sealed with the stuff...never did re-crack..
Lol i became a expect on reglassing my front bumper.. with almost a 2" drop amd a Black widow front in Philly. You can image..
never heard of the JB Weld thing, but you can get a can of Fiberglass and repair it.
1. remove the side skirt
2. stop drill the crack.
3.back fill the Side skirt where the crack is with fiberglass. you cam make a mess it's on the back..LOL
4. then you will only have to sand the front where the fiberglass oozed throught the stop drill holes...
I have used this stuff inside motors to seal cracks and holes in engine cases, covers back when junior was always dumping his dirt bikes and breaking chit.. ...when it worked, I was hooked..always have some in the garage.
your correct tho...he is better to remove it and repair from the back side to stiffen thing's up...although those side skirts aren't easy to remove...she'll prolly crack more on dis-assy???
ahh,i thought, since you mentioned "body kit" that we were talking about aftermarket sideskirts. i've heard good hings about jb weld... stronger than bondo. my dad and i fixed a bbq pit with jb once a couple years ago. after being moved countless times, suker is still together. as others mentioned, i'd fix from behind and maybe lightly bondo the front of the crack, sand, and paint.
I wouldn't go adding bondo to it...it may mess it up...The stuff dries to a gloss as it is and the color is Gray...It goes on easy and self levels so dont put a bunch on....you DONT wanna have to sand that stuff...it's killer strong...go 1 light coat and wipe it with a moist cloth to even things out and clean up any excess....then nail a coat the next day if needed...small coats are better than one big one when it comes to this stuff...
I would scuff the area lightly so it adheres good....even a little Scotch-Brite pad scuff would do...keep the area small...it holds like crazy anyway..
If it is fiberglass you can use jb weld like mentioned, or you can use fiberglass resin since that is what is used when fiberglass is layered. The good part about the resin is that is what it was originally made from and it is sandable...a little tough, but you will be able to sand it to get it nice and smooth
