I need some help as far as suggestions for replacement sheet metal to repare my rear quarter panel. I know that they have the sections where there is an upper and a lower quarter panel. I wanted to check and see if anyone out there has done this. I would prefer to just order the entire panel and just weld it in and grind in one spot. Any suggestions? Thanks again

Unless the section you need is small, go with the full quarter. If you have decent skills, your repair will be better and could even take less time than pieceing things together with patch panels.

As for tips, first use a cutoff tool or air chiesel to remove most of your outer quarter, then drill any spot welds you find around the perimeter. Tack the new quarter and check the fit by using your trunk lid and door as guides (make sure they are aligned first.) When final welding, jump around from one area to a different area to keep the panel from getting hot in any one area. Take plenty of breaks during this stage.

New sheetmetal is nowhere near as good as original. Best thing to do is get the panel down to bare metal to assess the damage to the whole panel. The best thing to do is to just cut out the bad part and replace it with the same piece cut out of the patch panel, don't ask me how I know.

Replacing the quarter is easy... check out my site for a full write up on the quarter panel replacement.

I am glad I did mine... the damage to the lip was slightly into the wheel house and there was a bit of rust on the lowest part by the trunk... all fixed now.

As for the thickness, it was one gauge thinner (approx .006) which if you want to look at percentages, it was about 20% thinner, but still much better than the mangled mess that was on there.

Well If there was much of the original quarter panel to replace I would certainly try to save it. The last owner took it all of and did a really crappy job of using patches to repair it since then they patches(unfinished) have began to rust. I would like to replace the entire panel, my next question would be if anyone knows websites of places that sell this? thanks for all of the input so far please keep it coming. :)
