Replacement schrader valve?

I accidentally broke off the schrader valve while trying to put on my fuel pressure gauge (yes I am that stupid :bang: ). It looks like this just threads into teh fuel rail, is it something that I can unbolt and replace, or is it part of the actual fuel rail?

Yeah, it just unscrews. Temporarily, you can remove it, find a 1/16 npt threaded screw, and put it in it's place. Add a little teflon tape to the threads first. You won't need much. Then tighten it down. Don't over torque it. Get it hand tight, then maybe 1/4 turn more. Shouldn't need any more. If it leaks, try tightening it more.

You will get a feel for it though and know when it's tight. Be careful; if you strip the threads or over tighten it, you will be screwed.

Then order another schrader valve from somewhere (???) and replace it when you get it.

Chris, I have not removed one, but it should come out using a tire valve core removal tool. People have to remove them with some FP guages and other funkyness that people do. I dont know if the valve itself has a special O-ring on it (compared to a tire valve core) which is fuel resistant.

Thanks Scott and JT. I suspected it would just unthread from the fuel rail, but I was so disgusted with myself/the stang that I didn't even bother looking when it broke. I just thanked god the actual relief valve itself didn't break off (just the threaded housing), otherwise my car would be immobile until I found another valve or a plug. I supposed Ford should have them right? They put schrader valves on the stangs (and lots of other ford/mercury) cars up until 2000 or so.
 
just do like i did and put a gauge there.

I bought a schroeder valve from a local Ford dealer, they're pretty universal so I'd think they would have them in stock. I have the part number at home, it was only a couple dollars

Note: Don't use teflon tape on the fitting if you're planning on useing a fuel pressure gauge, I've wrecked two gauges doing that.
 
Mootang, I was trying to put a gauge there when it snapped off. Without any threads I can't put a gauge on it, lol.

I foudn one on 5.0Resto (thanks Kyle), and my friend was driving up there sometime soon, so I can get him to pick one up for me if I don't find one at a parts store. His neighbor also works on 5.0s all the time, so he probably has one too. I'll try Ford too maybe.
 
let me see if i can figure out what you actually broke off. The schrader valve itself screws into the fuel rail...the only thing I can think of that you broke off is the part that is molded into the fuel rail. If this is not the case I am really confused. However, if you need just the schrader valve and cant find it i'll look in my box o stuff that i have laying around and you can have it. Just let me know...i have no use for it and I might as well help out a fellow sn owner. However if you want an autometer rail mount gauge with the right fitting I have one in stock too.

The schrader valve itself is actualyl inside the threaded housing. I simply broke off the housing. The "valve" is still good, and holding pressure. But the threaded part that you screw the cap or a gauge to, is the part that broke. I really appreciate the offer for your valve, but I stopped by Ford this morning and they had one. Thanks though! :nice:
 
Good Luck, You'll like having a gauge to moniter f/p especially if you use nitrous! :D If you are looking for any parts for your car i have alot of stuff for sale for fuel injected motors-let me know (Distributer, gauges, intake, cold air, fuel pump...the list goes on!)

The one I bought (from 50resto) has an adapter that threads onto the schrader valve. I was thinking I could just thread the gauge right into the fuel rail maybe, I didn't get around to trying it like that though. But I still want a schrader valve there in case I decide to take the gauge off, I don't have to find something to plug it with.
 
Chris, as long as the adapter has a male pintle to push the schrader valve core button, that should work (to keep the valve in there). This pintle would be like the one on your tire pressure gauge (in case I am not making sense like normal). :D

Otherwise, one does remove the core (I have seen gauges and adapters work both ways. I prefer the ones with a pintle because if something breaks you can remove the gauge on the side of the road and you still have the schrader valve core in place in the rail. Otherwise you have to install one to get home.

(You know all this - I just felt like posting). :)

:rlaugh: Yea if the gauge failed or something, I like being able to pull it off. What really sucks is the adapter that threads onto the schrader valve (the one that has that pintle in it to open the valve) has the old housing still threaded into it. I tried using a tap and die to get it out, but I couldn't get it threaded in far enough because of that pintle. But my friend has that adapter from his gauge (that he took off) that he's gonna give me. You made sense! :nice:
