Replacing 95 AODE

If you use the 4R70W, it has to come from a V6, so the bellhousing bolt pattern matches the block (the 3.8 and 5.0 are both Windsor engines).

However, you can install the 4R70W internals into the AODE case, or so I'm told.

Just get another AODE from a 94/95 mustang.....or if you have the cash, buy an aftermarket one, you'll be happy you did later. I'm on my 3rd aode because I have only ever had the money to buy used ones when they go out on me. If I'd bought a PA aode in the first place I'm sure I'd still have it.

I can't see where you're from, but I'll have mine available soon. Recently rebuilt with some valve body work and springs done. It shifts really nice and is like brand new now.

I'm doing a 5 speed swap so I won't need it. I live in the Jacksonville FL area.

This is a good opportunity to upgrade so you can either:

1. Rebuild your existing tranny with the internals from a '98+ 4R70W. This has the stronger mechanical diode intermediate one way clutch.

2. Swap in a 4R70W from a '98+ V6 model, reuse your old valve body and sensors, and add a shift kit.

The 4R70W has other advantages over the AODE such as higher ratio 1st/2nd gears for faster take off, stronger gearsets, and a stronger output shaft. If you get a '98+ model you also get the mechanical diode so the tranny will be virtually bulletproof.
Whatever you do, I strongly recommend adding a heavy duty external tranny fluid cooler to prolong the life of the tranny.

If you can pick up my old 95 auto tranny from Burlington, NC, you can have it. It worked great when removed several years ago with 80K miles on it.
