Replacing damaged antenna

Last night something on the interstate hit my 93 and bent the antenna. The base appears OK but the antenna itself is bent two different ways. Even if I have to buy the whole kit, can I just replace the antenna itself or do I have to replace the base / cable, etc. If I can replace just the antenna, is it a matter of unscrewing it and screwing in the new one?

This thread talks about replacing the whole thing but I was hoping I could get away with just replacing the vertical piece.

It just unscrews with a wrench. Simple 2 second job.

I took one off a 99 that matched my 91 perfectly, just to let you know you don't have to get one off the same year as yours.

do yourself a favor and quite hasseling with the antenna. disconnect it from the base, pull the fender off, weld fill the antenna hole in the fender shut, paint it again or spray pnt it, whichever. and get yourself an internal windshield antenna. ebay sell'em for $30. it connects in the back of your stereo plug and just mount it in the upper windshield area inside. that way also if you ever go into a carwash you don't have to worry about your antenna getting bent or bent from anything else.

But then again ..........I think in your haste you forgot to mention some additional cost of having someone else weld that ole hole up, plus the additional bodywork too welding up the hole, then you'll need to add prime and paint into the equation.... now we’re about what ($150 minimum) and then add the $30 for the eBay antenna.

I took mine off and poped that ball off and cut the antenna down to roof hight and ground the end smaller a bit and banged the little ball back on and then poliched it.....did my truck to. I did not notice a difference in reception at all......so mine was like a 20 min job but the R+R was only about 10 sec

Thanks for everyones reply. Luckly the local ford dealer had one in stock for $18. I don't mind having an antenna, I like watching it shake like hell when I am at idle. I also don't go through car washes, I prefer to hand wash / dry it myself.

I removed the stock one by hand and added a UPR shorty. No complaints, to easy to install.
