remove the serpentine belt, will require either a 3/8 or 1/2 drive breaker bar or serpentine belt tool. dont remember which one, i just have all 3. use an impact gun and unbolt the 13 or 15mm bolt holding on the idler pulley. installation is the revere of uninstall.
The only question i have is whether i have to TQ the idler pulley down, but judging by all the hooplah posted above i guess not.
The smooth one at the top closest to the alternator.Which idler did you replace there are 3 of them 2 smooth and 1 ribbed.
Ok, so do i remove the tensioner and then remove the pulley attached to it? Or do i have to replace the whole tensioner and pulley?CobraRed_96_GT said:the sound is your automatic belt tensioner, the pulley is steel and the tensioner is aluminum so it wears down and begins to lightly grind causing usually a squeak or moan. I replaced mine and it fixed the noise right up
