I've replaced starters before, but they were easy to get to in other cars. How is my access in this one? Haven't put it on jackstands yet to check.

You really need a lift. There's 3 bolts, 2 of which you have to get from the front with a very long extension. I had to take mine out when I R2 my transmission.

I have had mine in and out many times. To tell you the truth it sucks, I have many sockets, extensions, and a lift at my disposal and I still hate doing it.

Yep, I believe the socket size is 12mm...and you'll need a deepwell and a regular one, and a couple 12" extensions and a universal joint extension...you'll have to manuver it through the K-member and a-arms to get to the top bolt...Have fun...I've had mine in and out about 5-6 times now and it gets easier as you do it a couple times and know the routing of the ratchet...Helps to have bionic forearms and fingers too...

I was hoping you wouldn't say I need a lift. Is the starter one of those mini torque, or just a regular size. I know I could put a mini in there, and I know the mini made the starter installation into my 67 fastback WAY easier.

Not that I want a shop to do it, but what do you think I'd be charged for installation?

You shouldn't need a lift...I did mine on some ramps or some jackstands...It's not as difficult as it seems once you see what you have to do with it...

No you don't need a lift. It might be a little more comfortable with one but I took mine out several times on jack stands. Basically like everyone said, get a deepwell (12mm sounds right) and a bunch of extensions to where the ratchet is basically at the front of the engine. Disconnect the battery first though and drop the H-pipe.
