Replacing the hose on my fuel pump?

This is the hose from my fuel pump to the lid on the tank. What is the extra hat for? Do I need it? or could I just run one tube from the pump to the pump cover?

Junk yard agreed, or rockauto.com the are reliable and good site. I've never seen any part of the mustang fuel pump for sale separately. They always make you buy the whole assemby.
