required to change cam bearings when changing cam??

my motor i am building soon is a stock motor, it had a stock cam.
as mentioned in another post, my B cam fell from the table and i am almost sure its not bent.
I put it and the stock cam in the block

the stock one spins easily but the B cam wouldnt spin

are the cam bearings in the block worn to the stock cam???do cam bearings wear??

I am getting new cam bearings regardless i am just wondering will the B cam spin freely with new bearings??

If it won't spin, it's probably bent.....very slightly, but it's still bent.

Yeah I would buy a new cam not worth taking a chance espicaly if the cam wont spin freely. Also cam bearings are not easy to install.

Seriously.. listen to all these people and shell out for a new cam. Think of how big of a pain in the ass it will be when the cam fails and you have to replace it, after your car is back together.. not to mention any other parts it might take with it.

Seriously man, don't get too down. That kind of stuff can happen to anyone....but don't be foolish and install it anyway. Take it as a learning experience (round cylinders ie: camshafts, roll on hard objects ie: work benches) Just be glad it wasn't a brand new custom cam or something that costs $300+

You'll get over it in a short period of time.. I gaurantee that every member on this site who does their own work, has made mistakes which cost them money.

I've wasted more than i care to admit on bad parts decisions, and changing of plans!

Just wait till you go really modifying it. Then its always the next weakest link breaking. I have been there...we all have it gets really frustrating. When I did my 347 it was a non-stop nightmare getting everything lined out. Problems here and there. Your not alone. Good luck.

I would NOT replace cam bearings. They need special tools to get them out and it's a monstrous pain in the ass.

Don't feel so bad. I am just finishing up my project. I started my h/c/i job in June. I had a broken head bolt, and screwed up drilling it out, and I had to get an entirely new shortblock. I could only wish my troubles had been limited to a simple $100 replacement of the cam. Count yourself lucky so far if anything.

Don't feel bad if it's bent....a B303 cam isn't gods gift to performance anyway. This is just a higher powers way of telling you that you should look into a custom dual pattern grind as a replacement instead of that off the shelf piece of "alphabet soup" you were going to use.

No need for installing new cam bearings. Just get an off the shelf cam if money is tight. A TFS1 cam can be had for about $130 bucks Good Luck.

If your pulling/rebuilding/installing an engine..this is the least of all problems your going to see..something ALWAYS wants to be a problem.

calm down dude... maybe being less careless witht the cam in the first place and you wouldnt have this proble. be more aware and less oblivious to things, and TAKE A HINT! as previously mentioned this is a sign, THROW that cam away and get at least a stage 1 TFS cam or a custom stick. but i doubt its bent, you said ti was a shorrt fall, and i just dont get how a cam can hold up to the extreme pressures of valve springs but bend at the drop of a hat. anywho, expect setbacks.. if everything was easy, honda owners would drive mustangs... deal with it.

its all good tho, dont flip out and do something stupis, like sell the car lol. and no, you could leave the cam bearings in, b/c like also mentined above they are a ROYAL pain in hte ass and you seem to have a short fuse.

lets just say i have done worse.......much worse. and spent a whole lot more than 50 bux for a new paperweight.

at the very least, if your heart is set on a cam, get something else, and replace the damned valve springs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

stock valve springs are not capable of handling a b cam if they have any wear on em.....like 50k or more, forget it.

if you decide to say screw it, and do it anyway, read my first sentance, and those of almost every post in this thread. it only goes DOWNHILL from here buddy.

wait till the unobtanium water pump/front accesory bracket studs break when you try to remove them to install this cam, now your really cussin!!!!!!!!

(better get some ready.....)

thanks for reminding me to get pissed! lololluckily my car now has new waterpump gaskets, so those studs wont cause too much of a problem for me when i cam it up.
