Requirements for Kenne bell supercharger, help!!

Hey guys I have a 2002 Gt 5 speed bone stock except for flowmaster 40 series and no cats. Im planning on installing a kenne bell 6 psi with no intercooler... Do I have to change anything else on the motor before installing ..... LIKE UPGRADES??? Or can I just install it and go? ANy comments would be greatly appreciated... Also does any one have one? If so how is it.....:SNSign:

Any opinions on where I can purchase one other than kennebell.com..

You can only buy KB blowers from Kenne Bell direct or from a shop that is part of their dealer net work. Period. They do not do internet 3rd party sales. And will terminate dealer status if a company does it.

You won't need any upgradeis you are doing the 6psi kit.

Their kits are complete. It comes with everything you need, so have at it. I had only a Magnaflow catback and 4.10 gears when mine was installed.

Yea the kit comes complete, I started off with the 6 psi kit, don't get me wrong it was great. If I were to do it again I would just keep saving up my money and buy the 9lb intecooled the first time, it was a pain in the butt to upgrade, basically had to install tear down and then install again....9lb with all the accesories rock!!!

Yeah, you can add a KB to a bone stock car since the kit is complete. Def get the 9lb kit.

I plan on getting a KB myself and I have come to the conclusion that I am going to get the 9lb kit instead of the 6lb and just get a real safe tune and maybe even run a 8lb pulley on it just to be safe. This is my daily driver, but one day, when I have enough money, I plan on forging the engine and than I can up the power safely. I had orginally thought about getting the 6lb and upgrading later, but I think with an ultra safe tune, I should be fine with the 9lb kit until I can build the engine. Sure the power will be down, but I would rather sacrifice some power than sacrifice the engine.

Get some suspension mods to get that xtra power to the ground: subframe connectors, STB, adj. lower control arms, adj. shocks and struts.

The KB comes with a tune.Why would you need to get another tune?

I agree with the others save up and do the 9psi intercooled setup first.
INtercooled boost is safer and lets you drive it harder without power loss due to the air heating up..

Hell on mine i see MAYBE 130* at wot after the blower..

Because no mail order tune, even if it is from KB, it won't be perfect. If I am going to spend several thousand dollars on my car, a couple hundred to make sure my tune is dead on won't matter. I understand that KB does a good job, but every car is different and will behave slightly different depending on mods, the car, and the climate inwhich the car is driven. I would also only take the car to a top tuner, and if that means driving several hours, than I think it would be worth it. Just trying to be cautious, call it cheap insurance, well maybe not that cheap

I also totally agree with getting support mods, such as suspension, that is why I can't get a forged motor, I have spent and will spend money so I can get the power to the ground.

Feb will be when I buy my 1.7 KB 9 psi with intercooler. comes with chip, injectors, (and I think) fuel pump and more... check out their website. Watch out guys! :SNSign:

Doesn't include the fuel pump. It includes the boost-a-pump.

One requires mod is just a better clutch... the stock GT cluch can't handle so much tq and will slip...

Alot of good points, just keep in mind your KB warranty is void once you get a custom tune...so if your 6,000 dollar supercharger ****s the bed, you will be paying out of pocket for it. There tune is pretty good, and definately safe.

my 01 GT's clutch held up fine all the way up to like 10,000 miles with the KB (9#) installed. It was still holding fine when I traded it in over a year ago for the Cobra.

thanks guys!!! Basically even if I do go with the 9 psi with intercooler, i dont need any other mods to the motor because the kit comes with everything, right????? And of course I will need some suspension upgrades to get the power to the ground....

And thats a good point about the tune. i dont want to get it tune and void the warranty...

Think it would be cheaper to replace the motor than the supercharger!!!
